About Buttermilk Falls
Buttermilk Falls is a small, little-documented cascade on an unnamed tributary of Claverack Creek in the Town of Claverack, Columbia County, east of the hamlet of Red Mills. It appears on USGS topographic maps but has no established public trail or published height, and the surrounding land is rural private property.

Gorge Trail — out-and-back, approximately 1.5 miles with about 500 feet of elevation gain; difficulty: moderate. The trail is a well-maintained park footpath that follows the stream up the gorge and offers multiple close viewpoints of the main 165-foot cascade and smaller cascades along the way. Hikers should expect some steep sections and stairways carved into the rock; surfaces are uneven in places, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The route is non-technical but moderately strenuous due to the elevation change and grade.
