Waterfall Hikes Near Johnstown, NY

Johnstown looks two ways for waterfalls, south to the Mohawk Valley and north into the Adirondack foothills. The two Buttermilk Falls at the top of the list lie about 10 miles out in opposite directions: the southern one, better known as Yatesville Falls, is a 30-foot drop in Yatesville Falls State Forest with a viewing platform about a quarter mile from parking, while the northern one, in the hills northeast of Gloversville, has no official trailhead. Canajoharie Falls fills a gorge in Wintergreen Park at the edge of Canajoharie village, and Judds Falls, also called Tekaharawa Falls, sits on Canajoharie Creek northeast of Cherry Valley. Up the Sacandaga between Speculator and Wells, Auger Falls is a 0.8-mile round trip, one of 33 falls inside the 50-mile radius.
