Salinas farms the valley floor, and its waterfalls pour an hour away in the Big Sur country. McWay Falls is the postcard, 80 feet straight onto a cove beach at Julia Pfeiffer Burns, viewed from an easy 0.6-mile path. Pfeiffer Falls drops 60 feet up a redwood canyon on a mile-and-a-half round trip. Deeper in the Ventana backcountry, Pine Falls and Triple Falls each ask for three miles and about 500 feet of climbing. Ten falls come within fifty miles, and the coastal creeks hold their water longer than the inland ones.
