About Goldstream Falls
Goldstream Falls is a short, scenic waterfall within Goldstream Provincial Park on southern Vancouver Island, just west of Victoria, BC. The falls are reached via a forested trail that follows Goldstream River through old-growth Douglas-fir and western red cedar. The site is known for easy access, a canyon-like setting with viewing platforms, and strong ecological interest during the annual salmon run in autumn when birds and other wildlife gather.
The Setting
Goldstream Falls sits at 131 metres within Goldstream Park, in the coastal lowlands of British Columbia. The falls drop 7 metres.
Why This Waterfall Exists
Goldstream Falls flows over Leech River Complex, a metamorphic volcanic rock layer deposited about 66-201 million years ago. Over time, the stream has worn through these layers at different rates, creating a 22-foot drop that forms the waterfall.
