Waterfall Hikes Near Gilbertsville, PA

Gilbertsville's waterfall list is short, with eight falls inside 50 miles, split between the Philadelphia area and the Poconos. The closest listing, The Grotto, is in Philadelphia's Wissahickon Valley about 28 miles southeast. Falls of Schuylkill is history more than a hike: Fairmount Dam drowned the rapids that gave East Falls its name in the early 1820s, and only a few rocks show at low water under the Roosevelt Expressway bridges. At the north edge of the circle, Hawk Falls in Hickory Run State Park drops about 25 feet at the end of a quarter-mile walk from Route 534. Tobyhanna Falls, a five-foot ledge about half a mile into the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area, is a smaller payoff for the same long drive.
