The Approach

The hard 3.1-mile out-and-back trail gains 367 feet of elevation on the way to the falls.

Trail Description

The route starts on a wide, rough old game lands road that drops about 120 feet to the creek, so part of the climb comes on the way back. Past the ruins it becomes an unmarked, rocky creekside path that crosses the stream many times and gets faint near the falls. Sources rate it anywhere from moderate to very difficult because of the crossings and route-finding.

What to Expect

The falls drop a gentle 12 feet. Dogs are welcome.

Accessibility

The trail involves steep, uneven terrain with significant elevation change and is not accessible to mobility devices.

spring fall

Spring and after heavy rain, when the creek runs high enough to make the cascade worthwhile. Late summer flow is low, and high water makes the crossings harder.

Seasonal Access

The best time to visit is Spring and Fall. Winter access may be limited.

Safety Information

Expect slick rocks and repeated, sometimes shin-deep creek crossings; wear shoes that can get wet and skip the hike in high water. Land downstream of the game lands is private, so stay on the creek path inside SGL 221.
