Waterfall Hikes Near Black River Falls, WI

Black River Falls was founded to use the waterpower of the Black River, and a hydroelectric dam now sits over the falls in town. Just below the dam downtown, a sloping rapid listed here under its Ho-Chunk name, Ni-ho-kha-wa-ne-ey-ja, is followed about 50 yards downstream by a second drop of 2 to 3 feet. Polly Falls, about 7 miles south, is ringed by posted private land with no formal public access. Hamilton Falls on the North Fork Eau Claire River and Big Falls County Park, a swimming spot where dogs are not allowed, are both a longer drive to the northwest.
