About Terra Cotta Falls
Terra Cotta Falls is a small cascade on the Credit River located in the Terra Cotta / Caledon area of southern Ontario. The falls are set in a wooded river valley within or adjacent to Terra Cotta Conservation Area and are a popular short outing for local hikers and photographers. Flow and appearance vary seasonally (typically higher in spring and after rain). Coordinates: 43.7196, -79.9693.
Why This Waterfall Exists
Terra Cotta Falls flows over Amabel Formation, a layered sedimentary rock layer deposited about 427-433 million years ago. These soft rocks erode readily, allowing the stream to carve a vertical drop into the landscape.

Trail & Hike Details
Trail Description
A short, generally easy walk along forested trails and riverbanks. Trails may be a mix of packed dirt, roots and rock; some sections can be narrow or uneven. There may be short unofficial or rocky routes down to the river/rail bank for better views, these can be slippery and steep. Expect a short out-and-back style visit if you are only going to the falls.
What to Expect
A modest cascade rather than a large vertical drop. The stream/river runs through a wooded valley with typical southern Ontario mixed forest. Facilities (washrooms, formal lookout platforms) may be limited depending on exact access point. Water levels and photographic interest are highest in spring and after rain; in winter parts of the area may be icy or snow-covered.
Accessibility
The trail is not wheelchair accessible. Uneven terrain and elevation changes require steady footing.

Spring (higher flows) and fall (foliage) are the most scenic. Early mornings or weekdays typically offer quieter conditions. Avoid visiting immediately after heavy rains or during freeze-thaw events when banks and rocks can be especially hazardous.
Seasonal Access
The best time to visit is Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Check with the managing park or local authority for current conditions.
Safety Information
Primary hazards: slippery rocks and steep or unstable riverbanks, high flows after rain, hidden underwater hazards, cold water, ticks, and poison ivy. Do not stand on wet rocks or attempt to climb steep banks for a photo. Check weather and recent trail reports before visiting and let someone know your plans if hiking alone. If visiting in winter, expect icy trails and increased risk of falls.
