About Tahquitz Falls
Tahquitz Falls tumbles approximately 60 feet (18 m) over a slab of granite into a shady plunge pool in lower Tahquitz Canyon on the west skirt of Palm Springs. Nestled within the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation and managed by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the falls sit a short distance upstream from the canyon visitor center. The canyon — and the spirit Tahquitz from Cahuilla folklore for which it is named — add deep cultural resonance to the natural beauty here. The setting is intimate and photogenic: granite walls, desert palms, and the steady roar of the falls. Visitors should be mindful that Tahquitz is on tribal land with important cultural sites and ancient rock art nearby; treat the area respectfully and follow any guidance from the visitor center. The site is popular for a quick, rewarding hike and for learning about local Cahuilla history as well as the geology that creates the waterfall's classic plunge.

Trail Description
The hike to Tahquitz Falls is a well-maintained, 2.0-mile out-and-back trail with about 350 feet of elevation gain and a moderate difficulty rating. Expect some rocky sections and short climbs as the trail winds up lower Tahquitz Canyon toward the falls; the route is generally straightforward and well-signed from the visitor center. Along the way you’ll pass desert vegetation and cultural landmarks, including areas of traditional Cahuilla rock art, so stick to the trail and respect posted protections. The trail terminates at the outlook and pool below the 60-foot granite-plunging waterfall; plan for a short stay for photos and return on the same route.
